"I've kept and produced many chicks from Golden-breasted E flaviventris, but sadly I never managed to rear them past a week old. They are insectivorous when feeding chicks, but that is like most seedeaters.
They can be nervous when first imported, but can become surprising tame when established. They can become finger tame using livefood and one male used to sit by the door of the aviary and follow my feet around the aviary until I gave him a mealworm or waxworm.
Because they have quite a dry feather type, they can look quite tatty when they are first imported, but when offered clean bathing water they soon smarten up and look outstanding after a moult. When in good feather and settled nicely they make excellent show birds, one male we had was exceptional in a show cage!
Please buy yourself a pair they are stunning birds to keep, but don't mix them with smaller and similar sized birds that have a lot of yellow, orange and red and black plumage, the male will chase them when in breeding condition."
